Let There Be Art
Wasatch Elementary's most successful and anticipated event of the year is just around the corner and our students need your support!
The 25th Annual Arts Showcase is Friday, May 17 from 5:30 to 8 pm at 30 R Street in Salt Lake City.
The Arts Showcase is our opportunity to show off all of the artwork we have created during the year. It also gives us a chance to raise the additional $16,000 needed to fully fund the Fine Arts program at Wasatch. We have a goal of raising $5000 of this online, over the next month.
We know many family members and friends are unable to attend the Arts Showcase and want to pitch in to support the Wasatch arts program. Or perhaps you're attending the event, but want to kick in a little extra in one easy step. Our online fundraiser lets you do just that.
Why is this so important?
Wasatch Elementary's most defining feature is our focus on an arts-integrated curriculum. Dance, music, drama and the visual arts all play a part in our students' overall learning and academic achievement. The value of this education for each and every student is incomparable, but our general school budget does not cover the $150/child this arts education takes. Our PTA is vested in student arts education and works hard to raise funds for our arts programs.
How does it work?
Throughout the year, students have the ability to work with professional artists and to showcase their creations. It creates a sense of community among students, teachers, parents, and staff as we work together to create and reflect on art.
The hard work our teachers and students put into their art endeavors culminates at our Annual Arts Showcase. The entire school is transformed into a community art space where student artwork is on display, class projects are auctioned off, and community artists sell their artwork and donate a portion of the proceeds to the school.
But what about the money we raised in the fall?
The generosity of the Wasatch community was amazing and we raised $50,000 for the Arts. But.....this doesn't completely cover the cost of the program. Did you know that our fundraising helps pay the salaries of our art, music, dance, and drama specialists? We also funded Space Pirates, the school musical, this spring, allowing every child who wanted to participate to do so. In addition to these big expenditures, the funds provide for guest artists, art supplies in the classrooms, and arts-based field trips to places like the Utah Museum of Fine Arts and Kingsbury Hall.
